Navigating Neural
Street Connections

The changing shape of our brains

Navigation apps and GPS are making our brains lazier, scientists say. Researchers from UCL are exploring the physical changes occurring as we use this modern technology
There is a significant reduction in stimulation in the hippocampus when using navigation technologies such as Google Maps. Scientests found that conversely black cab drivers, who rely on memory to connect thousands of London streets, constantly gain grey matter and neural connections.
"We hope to find a balance between making navigation easy and teaching us about the environment through which we’re moving"
Hugo Spiers, UCL psychology
At PATTERNITY we encourage serendipity and flow in the city, and encourage people to explore their environment when disconnected from the digital.
Connecting the dots between the mundane and the magnificent can have powerful results. Email studio@patternity.org to find out about our image curation services.
