Psychedelic Jasper

Finding beauty in the microscopic with Bernardo Cesare

Coveted by mineral collectors, Ocean Jasper is renowned for forming in unusual and colourful blobs and patches. Professor of Petrology at the University of Padova, Bernardo Cesare, explored the jasper up close, uncovering microscopic psychedelic explosions and rainbow contours.

His photographs capture flower-like forms jostling against chaotic streaks and precise circles. Blink and the textures seem to change from the furry and the stony to the metallic. The images are reminiscent of the pulsating light projections at an early Pink Floyd concert or the patterns within a child’s kaleidoscope. Free your mind.
