Recognising Pattern Pioneer Nelson Mandela

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears”
Nelson Mandela
Today we celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela, who pioneered interconnectivity of people, and championed pattern in his inspiring wardrobe choices!⠀
Mandela sported what became to be knows as the 'Madiba shirt'. The batik-technique silk shirts, usually adorned in a bright and colourful print, were named after Mandela's clan name "Madiba". Batik is originally from Indonesia, and has been claimed as cultural heritage of Indonesia by UNESCO, but the technique is used around the world to make bold and joyful textiles.
