RESEARCH
Recycling Revealed
A new perspective on waste management
Photographer Paul Bulteel has documented the unexpected beauty of various recycling processes in his native Belgium – a country that has one of the highest recycling rates in a world where over 3 million tonnes of rubbish is created per day.
The series collated in a book Cycle & Recycle captures the recycling of wire cables and carpet fibres to radiators and mattresses, all resulting in usable materials for new products and buildings. The photos provide a hopeful insight into the possibilities of recycling and, as the photographer states, a reminder that if the practices documented “were to become commonplace worldwide, at least one of our major planetary environmental challenges would be much better managed.”
